Resource of the Week

Grant Opportunities

Starting this month and continuing into the new year, many organizations are offering grants, residencies, and fellowships for creatives and artists. These are great ways to continue educating yourself within your creative industry while exploring new ideas, mediums, and processes.

Designers, illustrators, developers, and other creatives are encouraged to apply—not just traditional “artists.” This is a great opportunity to give yourself time to create while being compensated.

Something Gorgeous

Gorgeous Paper Sculptures of Ocean Life Threatened by Pollution

Tina Kraus creates intricate paper sculptures highlighting the beauty and diversity of ocean life, emphasizing the impact of pollution and climate crisis. Her Paper Life! Ocean series depicts marine creatures affected by pollution, like a hermit crab in a tin can and a squid in a fishing net. An exhibition of her Ocean series is planned for next year at MAKE Southwest.

While the sculptures aim to raise awareness of the climate crisis, the attention to detail is astounding. Previously, I shared these beautiful crustaceous ceramics by Araceli Adams.

Portfolio Of The Week

Quality over Function

Wanda Arca is a freelance motion designer. She uses Adobe Portfolio, which I frequently discuss on my website and TikTok. Wanda’s portfolio emphasizes quality over theme, showing visually engaging work that draws viewers in.

Animated thumbnails, combined with static illustrations, sketches, and animated videos, highlight her skill and creativity.

Portfolio Rating: 7.9/10

Your Brain on Food by Mother and Nexus Design Studio

Mother and Nexus Design Studio created an animated campaign for Postmates, including 6 shorts visualizing what our brains might look like on favorite foods. My favorite is the donut one—twisted but fun.

Which one is your favorite?

Ensemble Travel by Cossette

A visual refresh for Ensemble, a travel agent group, using a limited color palette and illustrations instead of cliche travel photos. This approach elevates the brand and imparts a touch of luxury.

One Lesson

Good Company Can Increase Creativity

I’ve been traveling and spending time with friends while working a little here and there. Maybe that is the lesson this week: take time to see the people who make you feel like yourself.

I feel recharged from conversations, laughs, and good times, and I’m ready to return home and focus on my goals.

I hope you are feeling inspired to make some cool shi*t this week. If not, send me a reply and let’s chat.
