Resource of the Week

An Agency Archive

An Agency Archive

Curate by Monish Khara, An Agency Archive is a growing directory for design studio that focus on graphic design and branding. When I was a student I had found a similar website that I used for searching for gigs and this is a great resource to bookmark for anyone in the job market. It has a pretty comprehensive collection including agencies from the US and Europe and I'm sure many more to come.

Shantell Martin x UNO Artiste Series

I love the UNO Artiste Series by Mattel and this one is from friend and artist Shantell Martin who is known for her playful yet poetic drawings and illustrations. I previously purchased the series created by Nina Chanel Abney and I will be sure to place my order for Shantell's collection as well!

Portfolio Of The Week

Raffael Stüken

Raffael Stüken

Raffael's portfolio website is a masterclass on scroll animations as his entire design portfolio website uses it. Raffael is a graphic designer and developer based in Cologne and currently the creative lead at the agency Humans & Machines. In my opinion, at this level a design portfolio should serve as a business card, showcasing experience and design taste rather than depth and process and that is exactly what Raffael has developed. He has included a few sections containing projects he has completed over the years giving a brief overview of his design skills when it comes to developing digital experiences and brand identities. Additionally he also describes his process for developing his updated portfolio website focusing on creating a site that used minimal code which I enjoyed.

8.9/10

Nice Life by Eddy Bennett

Nice Life by Eddy Bennett

I am a bit amazed by the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the pieces created by Eddy Bennett. An artist based in London creating beautiful artworks melding traditional sign painting with vibrant colors, materials, and the soul of the pop movement. Also, show me some gold leaf and I'm watching it 100% of the time.

One Lesson

Outside of Design

This past weekend I turned 32. Not exactly an exciting age but still a moment to celebrate and reflect.

Here are 5 things I thought about...

1. What got you to where you are today, will not get you to where you want to be. You have to continue to push yourself to learn and grow in new areas that you never thought you would enter into. For me that has been leaving a full-time design role to work for myself. Learning more about businesses outside of a traditional design service agency. Finding passions and hobbies outside of being creative.

2. Stop and smell the flowers. It is important to stop. Look around. Enjoy where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing. I've realized that if I try to think back to some of my younger years, some of them are a blur. I can't actually remember what was going on then. Maybe I should see a doctor 😅 but maybe also because I never actually stopped to take everything in. Fast forward to today and for me, memories are the most important thing. I want to be able to remember as many amazing moments as possible.

3. Stillness. Yes it is exciting to travel and move around freely as you please. But sometimes you need to be still. Whether that be to focus on work, rest, or to even be alone with yourself.

4. Family and Friends. Surround yourself with them if you can. Make sure they are the kind of people you would do anything for and that they would do the same. They will be there for you in your hardest times, and also for the best. They make life that much better.

5. Don't ever stop making. I attribute a lot of my life to my ambition and drive to create. I believe it is what makes me unique and something that I am so grateful for. The excited I felt as a kid to make and build things is the same feeling I have today to design and create and that is something that I never want to lose.

I hope you have an amazing start to the week and make some cool sh*t!
